Thoughts From Our CEO

Zain Khan has served as CEO of iConstituent since 2001. He has become one of the nation’s leading experts on political and governmental communications. In his blog, he discusses industry trends as they relate to iConstituent and how we are working to improve our customer experience and service.

    The First 90 Days

It’s been nearly 90 days since we finalized our acquisition of InterAmerica Technologies. Since March 1, we have had no time for holidays – and, gladly so; we are busy tending to a growing business with a thriving base of clients on and off the Hill.

However, growth presents many challenges that must be overcome to succeed as a business. Here is a brief overview of what we have accomplished in the first 90 days of our acquisition of InterAmerica and what lies beyond the horizon:

    • Since March 1, we have consolidated our east coast operations into one office. More than fifty full time staff will be stationed in one centralized location (600 Pennsylvania, SE, Suite 400).
    • We are streamlining all our departments and creating new functions, roles and responsibilities – all with a singular focus on improving customer service and support.
    • We have reengineered our core software – Capitol Correspond (CRM), and have added more developers and engineers to the team.  The product was approved by the House and is already used in Senate offices.
    • We have been approved to sell MiCongress on Demand (“Video on Demand”) to House offices and have already signed nearly ten Members to the service in the first few weeks!

The next few weeks and months will bring even more changes to iConstituent:

    • On May 24th, we will formally drop the InterAmerica brand and consolidate everything under iConstituent. Though, the fighting spirit of InterAmerica and its founder Juan Gutierrez lives on, the company has changed – evolved – into iConstituent.
    • By the end of May, we will launch a new division of on-site customer representatives, aptly called Customer Support Consultants. They will offer our clients in-office support on our full suite of products as well as consult on how to leverage our products to create a holistic approach to constituent communications. The end result will be a 100 percent stepped up on-site support presence on the Hill.
    • By the middle of June, there will be more professionals working at our Helpdesk, making sure that customer support issues are answered quickly and efficiently.
    • In the near future we will unveil our new iPhone application.
    • By August, we will introduce a new feature in the Constituent Gateway that will revolutionize the way offices manage constituent communications. We have coded this endeavor, “Project Northstar,” and our team of developers is busy at work on it now.

iConstituent is steadily morphing into a new type of Hill vendor – one that offers a comprehensive communications solution and true innovation.   We are a real alternative to the current crop of start-up Hill companies and old school technology providers.

Over the next several weeks and months, our clients will notice tangible changes in all our products, services and customer support. Improvements abound!

Our goal is to create a company that exceeds client expectations in every way. We know we have much to do to get to this point, and no amount of slick marketing will help us to achieve this goal. Ultimately, the proof will be “in the pudding,” as they say.

    Stay Tuned...

    Changing the Game

“We all survive only through constant rethinking and reinvention,” Adi Ignatius, Editor in Chief, Harvard Business Review.

From our founding in 2002 to our introduction to Congress in late 2003, iConstituent has always been at the forefront of innovation. The Constituent Gateway E-Newsletter System was, and still is, the premier e-newsletter product on the Hill. The first e-newsletter product introduced to Congress, the Constituent Gateway e-newsletter system is now used by over 200 Congressional offices and growing.  When we began offering this service to Congress in late 2003, few offices understood the value of this service. Today, almost every congressional office uses an outside vendor and iConstituent remains the dominant vendor in that industry.

But, to remain successful, iConstituent must “rethink and reinvent” its business strategy and game plan for 2010 and beyond.

And, what a year 2010 will be for iConstituent!

On March 1, 2010, InterAmerica Technologies (“InterAmerica”) merged with iConstituent. With the merger of InterAmerica, iConstituent will have a combined Congressional client base of over 250 offices.

Already, InterAmerica and iConstituent developers are working to “rethink and reinvent” our products and services; it’s this spirit of innovation that has kept iConstituent as the leading provider of constitiuent outreach since its introduction on the Hill in late 2003.

Everything from our products to our customer service will be benefit from our relentless drive to innovate and improve. Soon, we will release the very first congressional video on demand channel (known as MiCongress™), a mobile platform for the Constituent Gateway, and a completely re-engineered, brand new constituent correspondence system that will change the landscape of constituent outreach as it is known today.

Who is the beneficiary of all of this? You – the hardworking Hill staffer.

iConstituent represents a new choice in the market place – and, a more current one versus the legacy correspondence systems offered in the past. In the end, we realize and respect that you have a choice amongst vendors, and greatly appreciate your choosing iConstituent.
